1897-1899 Cleveland (National League)

Best known as being the inspiration behind the nickname Cleveland Indians, he is generally (incorectly) credited with being the first Native American major leaguer. The chief's career was cut short by injury and alcohol abuse. He is the subject of an excellent work of biographical fiction entitled "The Cleveland Indian" by Luke Salisbury. Image ©Jeff Suntala
